A Selection of Travel Photography

By Jason Eckley

Studying abroad really ignited Jason Eckley’s passion for travel, and his collection of images reflect his interest in the world around him. Dayton itself is a cultural melting pot, and one fantastic way to get a taste of all the flavors that make up Dayton is by visiting the World A’Fair. This year’s event, taking place Friday, May 20, through Sunday, May 22, is themed Wedding Traditions Around the World. The festival is a celebration of diversity that showcases the food, dancing, music, costumes and cultural exhibits  representing the ethnic backgrounds and cultures of Dayton and the greater Miami Valley.

About Jason Eckley:

Dayton native Jason Eckley has a selection of his travel photography on display.  During undergraduate study, he participated in several study abroad trips and developed an artistic interest in travel photography.  ”Now my passion for this art form is keen and comprehensive,” Eckley says.  He describes his photography in the following way: “There are two main characteristics that make my work unique.  The first is the achievement of quality images without formal training, technical equipment, and significant photo editing.  I use a basic compact digital camera and rely on a sense of composition, unique perspective, and awareness of the sun’s effect on lighting.  The second unique characteristic of my work is the capture of amazing sights abroad.  Many subjects of my photography are Wonders of the
World or UNESCO World Heritage Sites.”
