RiverScape MetroPark Evolution

By Jacqui Theobald

Before becoming “Dayton’s front porch” featuring exquisite gardens, active lifestyle amenities and hosting Dayton’s signature arts and cultural celebrations, RiverScape MetroPark blossomed from Van Cleve Park, established after the levees were constructed following the great flood of 1913, into what has become an iconic Dayton destination. Urban-dweller Jacqui Theobald melded her passion for photography and appreciation of everything RiverScape MetroPark has to offer in a series of photographs chronicling this park’s journey. Stop by this MetroPark for an afternoon or during one of the local festivals it hosts; admission is free and the memories you create here will last a lifetime!

About Jacqui Theobald:

As a lifelong painter and fairly recent appreciator of digital photography, Theobald never runs out of inspiration, and Dayton is frequently her source.  In 2007, she won the grand prize for City Life, and that photo was included in the 2008 City Life brochure. The following year, she nabbed the August photograph winning title. She also garnered honors as part of the 2010 Urban Nights Photo Exhibit. Additionally, Theobald has hosted exhibits of her paintings at the Dayton Convention Center, Greenville Memorial Hall, Washington Township Recreation Center, offices of the Montgomery County Commissioners, Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She also participates in group shows at Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors, Dayton Visual Arts Center, Art About Town, and others. “As a practicing art therapist in private practice, I see and understand the importance of finding a place in our lives for solace and serenity as well as sociability and stimulation,” she says. “Downtown Dayton provides opportunities for both quiet contemplation and great people togetherness.”
