Painted Panels of Various Festivals | By Robin Dakin

Robin’s artistic pursuits started at Stebbins High School where art teachers encouraged him to explore and express himself through a wide variety of art.  He received a degree in Fine Arts from Wright State University.  He has had experience working with so many different media.  He taught ceramics, jewelry and multi-media classes at the Toledo Museum of Art.  After spending some time in the Army, he came back to Stebbins High School where he taught painting, ceramics and drawing.  He was later hired to teach arts and crafts, photoshop and photography at Northmont High School.  He received his Masters in Ceramics from Antioch University and has spent several years teaching ceramics exclusively.  From 2001 to 2005 Robin was actively participating in galleries and art shows with his pottery.  He also found time to teach ceramics at Sinclair for a year.  He has recently began to work more extensively on adding painting to his pottery and looks forward to sharing his art with Dayton through Activated Spaces.

Local Food Products Artistic Display | By Lea Richards

Jimagua | By Terrianne Swift

Terrianne Swift has a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati.  She has published art and poetry online at Loch Raven Review, Eye On Life and Hazard Cat.  Her “Jimagua” (in Spanish, ‘twins’) series pairs human and animal portraits to create a complex whole. “On a Dayton television station website, I came across, side-by-side, two galleries of photos.  They were ‘mugshots’, from the Montgomery County jail, and from out local Humane Society.  I was struck by the similarity of expression on both the human and animal faces.  For this drawing series, “Jimagua” (which means ‘twin’, in Spanish) I’ve paired portraits of musicians, several of whom will be playing our Dayton festivals, with animal portraits.  My intention is to create a subtle echo: in form and emotion, the animals will sometimes emphasize, and sometimes reveal an aspect which contrasts the human portrait.”
