Mikee Huber

Mikee Huber used this opportunity to celebrate many of the neighborhoods that we call home. Her photography offers a door into understanding why so many people are moving downtown – quite literally! Photographed doors from different neighborhoods make up montages that celebrate Dayton’s sense of community.

Mikee says, “Architect Frank Lloyd Wright considered the hearth and fireplace the heart of the home.  Yet, I have always been drawn to windows and doors, which I have photographed during my travels across the US and the Caribbean.  I feel that they provide a glimpse into the soul of the house as well as add both personality and a “welcoming feeling”.  I photographed doors in different Dayton neighborhoods, seeking out the most interesting, unique, and characteristic doors to include in the display.  I started the project with “welcoming” doors in mind.  Along the way I began to photograph all things that made me feel welcome in the neighborhoods, such as gardens, pets, and friendly neighbors.  Taking pictures for this project has changed my perceptions of some neighborhoods; I’m hoping others will look at the neighborhoods differently, too.  I call my display, “Welcome Home.”
