By Charles Stough

Welcome to the Milroy for Commodore Campaign Headquarters! For his display, Charles Stough wanted to “campaign” for making a difference in Dayton. “What will revive Dayton is the same thing that always has worked for Dayton — creativity, energy and not clinging to tired old icons,” Stough says.  “And, oh yeah, of course, leadership.  We can always use leadership with a mean streak. Bullishness.  Tolerance for cold winters is helpful, yeah, that too. Quesadillas. A world-class chili recipe with no beans. Milroy has ideas for all that. A sense of humor we already got.”

Dayton certainly is a great place for creative individuals and colorful characters. You can catch party animals like Milroy at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, 2600 Deweese Parkway. Be sure to check out the annual Hops Over the Moon event, an indoor-outdoor beer and food-tasting extravaganza, on Saturday, June 25.

About Charles Stough:

Charles Stough worked 28 years at the Dayton Daily News as reporter, columnist and editor. His work there included photography and creating graphics. He retired from DDN in 2001 and sought greener pastures with Hearst Newspapers in San Antonio, Texas, but discovered where his heart truly belonged. “I finally decided Dayton is a more sensible place to live,” he says. “My wife and I have participated in the Dayton International Festival about 20 years, including my service as president in 1986. I feel like I can call Dayton my home.”  A humorist, Stough has worked in watercolor, acrylics and pen and ink and recently is working in digital art, examples of which are included in “Campaign HQ.”
